Eastern Heritage, The - No Cash...3 Tickets

Bluegrass | Maryland | 1977

1977 LP by bluegrass band The Eastern Heritage, released on Adelphi Records.

The Eastern Heritage were from the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area and consisted of Dick Drevo on banjo, Dan Curtis on mandolin, Johnny Knight on guitar, and Fred Knight on bass.

According to a short biography on Dick Drevo's website, The Eastern Heritage was together from 1967 to 1977 and this is the only LP they released, but the members continued to be active in the bluegrass community for the rest of their lives. Dick Drevo taught banjo and guitar lessons aster he retired from being an electrical engineer and he passed away in 2020. Dan Curtis passed away in 2006.

This LP was recorded at Urban Recordings in Bethesda, Maryland. It was produced by Dick Drevo and mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound.

Eclectricity - Eclectricity

Folk | Indiana | 1980

Bloomington, Indiana folk band Eclectricity's 1980 self-titled LP, released on Redbud Records.

The band was based in Bloomington, Indiana and consisted of members Bob Lucas, Mirian Strum, and Willy Schwartz. Most interestingly, to me anyway, is that Mirian Strum has been the violinist in John Mellencamp's band for the past twenty-something years!

From the Indiana Musicpedia (indianamusicpedia.com):

"Eclectricity was a popular acoustic act in Bloomington during the late 1970s and early 1980s. They released two LPs, one on local Redbud Records and one on Chicago label Flying Fish, and played live frequently. Lucas had released a solo LP, The Dancer Inside You, on BRBQ Records earlier, while Schwarz appeared on BRBQ label mates Screaming Gypsy Bandits recordings. Sturm later played with John Mellencamp; Miriam Sturm is Paul Sturm’s sister."

Ed Vinson Singers, The - One More River

Country-Gospel | Iowa | Unknown Year

LP from Keokuk, Iowa country-gospel group The Ed Vinson Singers, released on HH Records.

The Ed Vinson singers released at least one other LP, New Life!, through Jubilee Sound Productions. The group was active until at least 1980 - there is a newspaper advertisement in The Iowa Muscatine Journal for a live appearance in January of that year. Vinson continued to be active in the Keokuk, Iowa music scene, performing in local gospel bands and even having his own recording studio. He collaborated with area musician Tommy Tinder as recently as 2017.

Players on the LP include Otis Forrest on piano, Larry Hawkins on bass, Billy Reynolds on drums, Pee Wee Melton on guitar, and Tom Dodd on pedal steel. The LP was engineered by Jesse Evatte.

Edwards, Joe - Gospel Guitar

Country | Indiana | 1981

1981 by country guitarist Joe Edwards, released on CVS Records.

From the Indiana Music Makers website:

"Joe Edwards – Fiddle player and guitar player – Born in the Bloomington area, Joe Edwards is a Nashville musician who leads the Gitfiddle Review Show. Joe Edwards’s performing career began on WTTV Channel 4 (Bloomington, then Indianapolis) and WTTS radio in the early 1950s. Considered an expert fiddler and guitarist, Edwards has over thirty years experience playing in the Grand Old Opry band. Over the years, he has performed with Jerry Reed, Grandpa Jones, Dolly Parton, Hoosier Bobby Helms, and Tennessee Ernie Ford."

Joe Edwards passed away in 2025.

Elect, The - The Time Is...Now!

Gospel/Soul | Indiana | 1989

1989 LP by Indianapolis gospel vocal group The Elect, released on WFL Records.

The Elect consisted of vocalists Kevin Gaston, Aaron Boyd, Jeff Davis, and Kevin Allen. Instrumentalists in the group were Roy Cunningham, Gary Amos, and Wesley Clay.

The LP was produced by Ricky L. Callier and was executive produced by Eddie Hoke Jr., Jeff Davis, Mark Hoke, and Leroy Lovett Jr. It was recorded at Pinebrook Recordings Studios in Alexandria, IN.

WFL Records was a gospel label in the 80s and 90s based in Montrose, California.

Enne - Ballads, Blues, and Ditties

Folk | Michigan | 1970

1970 LP by Michigan folk singer Enne, released on Korbie Records.

As far as I can tell this is the only LP Enne released. Liner notes and Discogs indicate that she was of Finnish descent and was based in Pontiac, Michigan. Liner notes also indicate that she was a classically trained singer that began playing traditional folk songs in the late 1960s. Discogs indicates that Enne died in 2003.

The LP was recorded at New Sound Patterns in Detroit and was engineered by Danny Dallas. Korbie Records was a private press folk label based in Detroit.

Esso Steel Band - Steel Band In Bermuda

World | Bermuda | 1967

The Esso Steel Band's 1967 LP Steel Band In Bermuda, released on Edmar Records.

The Esso Steel Band was a popular steelpan drum band in Bermuda for over four decades. The band was led by Rudolph Commissiong until 1987. The band performed at many nightclubs, hotels, and convention centers in Trinidad and other Caribbean nations, as well as in Bermuda and Canada.

This LP was likely sold at their performances as a souvenir of sorts for the tourists and others that would come and hear them play.

In addition to Rudolph, other members of the Esso Steel Band included Herman 'Rock' Johnston, Steve Dupres, Carl Borde, Kelvin Dove, Neville Paynter, and Rudolph Benjamin.
